CA Budogu Original Tenugui: Kouken Chiai

In collaboration with renowned calligrapher Chiho [智烽], we are proud to present an original Tenugui featuring a phrase deeply meaningful to us at California Budogu: Kouken Chiai (交剣知愛) — “Understanding love through crossing swords,” or simply, “friendship through the sword.”

This phrase holds deep meaning for all of us on the California Budogu team. Though we are still growing, we’ve been fortunate to visit Kendo Dojos and events all across the United States and beyond. Through these adventures, we’ve built countless friendships within the global Kendo community. Whether its during Keiko or relaxing at the “second Dojo,” these connections are a huge reason we love and stay passionate about Kendo here at California Budogu. (Thank you to everyone we’ve met along the way!)

The calligraphy for this Tenugui is handwrotten by hand by Chiho [智烽],  a renowned calligrapher in the Kendo world from Tsukuba University. Chiho's work can be seen on the Zekken and Tenugui of some Japan's national team members and most esteemed Sensei in the Kendo community.
