CA Budogu EMERALD: Orizashi FT (Fusion Technology) Bogu Set

The Hirameki FT (Fusion Technology) Hybrid uniform was developed by Matsukan Kougyou in 2019, becoming one of the first “hybrid” Kendo uniforms on the market. It synthesizes horizontal synthetic polyester microfiber with vertical Sho-Aizome cotton threads, blending modern performance with traditional materials. With years on the market, the Hirameki FT has received consistently positive feedback from both Japan and abroad, praised for its beautiful color when new and its refined appearance even after years of fading. In collaboration with Matsukan Kougyou, we bring you the California Budogu EMERALD Bogu set, crafted using the same premium fusion Orizashi material found in the Hirameki FT.

The EMERALD Bogu set features a distinctive Double Jujizashi stitch pattern, combining 10mm and 2.5mm vertical and horizontal stitch widths to create a 3.3 Bu look reminiscent of traditional Tezashi (hand-stitched) Bogu—with a modern twist. This fusion of wide and narrow stitches delivers a unique aesthetic while offering exceptional protection and comfort. The Futon is extremely soft, and the specialized stitch grid creates cushioning designed to effectively absorb impact.

Unlike standard Bogu sets that use reinforced Kontan-based Futon, the EMERALD features a FULL Orizashi Futon—not just in the reinforcement areas. Similar to the Orizashi used in Kendogi, this construction enhances breathability and quick-drying performance while still providing added thickness. Details such as the Herikawa and Ago are reinforced with high-quality synthetic deerskin, with an option to upgrade to genuine Aizome deerskin.*

While maintaining a traditional appearance, the EMERALD set incorporates subtle yet distinctive features found only in modern Bogu. The Men is equipped with Matsukan’s signature HAGANE Mengane—a design modeled after their best-selling SWV (Safety Wide View) Mengane—featuring a gray inner finish engineered to improve visibility. The ergonomically shaped Kote use durable yet flexible dark navy Toray® Ultrasuede palms, while the Tare features a U-shaped Obi and Nanamezashi Odare panels for easier shaping and a more natural fit.
