'DANNO-YA' x 'CHIHO [智烽] Hand-Made CALLIGRAPHY Zekken

Introducing the ultimate Zekken collaboration: ‘DANNO-YA’ x ‘CHIHO [智烽]’ x ‘California Budogu’! 

In recent years, we’ve partnered with master craftsman Hiroyuki Danno, a distinguished artist from Tokyo Zokei University—one of Japan’s premier art and design institutes—to bring you what we believe to be the finest Zekken in the Budogu industry. Danno’s exceptional work has garnered such popularity across North America that his lead times have stretched from just a few days to 3-4 months!

Now, we’re elevating his artistry to new heights by collaborating with Chiho [智烽], a renowned calligrapher and artist from Tsukuba University. Chiho's calligraphy, featured on Zekken and Tenugui, is cherished by top Japanese national team members and esteemed Sensei in the Kendo community.

How it Works:

1. Choose from Kaisho, Gyosho, or Reisho fonts, or send us an email describing yourself and how you'd like your name to be represented—whether you prefer a brushy look, a traditional style, or something more playful. We'll pass your preferences on to Chihou, who will create your original calligraphy.
   
   
2. Once confirmed, the calligraphy is sent to Danno-Ya, where you’ll receive a final preview of your Zekken before production begins. Please note that after confirmation, production may take approximately 3-4 months.

The 'DANNO-YA' Zekken feature embossed synthetic leather lettering on a second layer of black ToRay suede - giving these amazing Zekken a beautiful 3D look. The stitching on the black portion of the lettering can be changed from black to a variety of colors at no extra charge!
